Mini Works of Art :

So my studio - in the garage - is mighty warm in the summer, here in California.
So back to the kitchen table I am painting.
The space is confining, but perfect for my mini-works.

I love creating small collections or coordinating series of paintings.
When I create three matching pieces, they are sold as "triptychs".
These mini-works are 12x12 or smaller.

The photo above shows a Botanical Series in the process.
I choose the warm golden hues I love so much!

These pieces will be for sale at Grace on the Avenue,
on July 19th, for the "Ladies Night Out" in Willow Glen.

Hope you are staying cool this summer!

Creating Texture on your Canvas :

I wanted to share a crucial step in my painting process.
This is also helpful for those interested in my
"Expressive Stylized Painting Workshop"

Before I begin to paint on my canvas, the surface needs to be altered...
it needs TEXTURE.
One way to do this is to apply a layer of Golden's Light Molding Paste.

Use your palette knife as if you were frosting a cake, have fun, spread it around.
While it's still creamy and soft, press different things that could create impressions in the paste, like bubble wrap, rubber shelf liner, etc.  In the photo below, you can see my container of just random things I use.

This process is one of the most important steps into creating my paintings.
This paste is very absorbent, so it will soak up my fluid paints almost like watercolors.

Nothing is planned, I just quickly press into the paste all over the canvas.
I want to have lots of nooks and crannies for my paint to fall into later.
When your happy with how the surface looks, let it dry overnight.
Then you are ready to add layers of fluid acrylic paint!

New Work

It's time to share some more of my new work!
This is a sample of what I've completed recently:

18x18 Botanica Russet
Detail View

24x20 Peony Bright Sienna
20x24 Organic Structures Russet

And...here is a peak of a new one in the works
from my studio:
My process can vary, but this time I choose to
draw my sketch onto the canvas first.

Well off to University Art,
need to buy more art supplies!

Artist at Work!

My hands are covered in paint as I type this...
It's been a very busy month for me.
I'm creating more paintings than ever!
 This is definitely not something
I'm complaining about! :)
With two Art Shows in May and
having my art sell successfully
at Grace on the Avenue,
my studio is getting a work out.

So back to the studio....yeah!

Ironstone Vineyards - Spring Obsession Art Show

I started off Spring with an Art Show in Murphys
at the beautiful Ironstone Vineyards.

Over 25 tons of daffodil bulbs are planted through out the winery!
Only a few of them started to bloom while I was there,
but can you imagine the next few weeks?!

It was a wonderful weekend :
spending time with my mom,
meeting more talented artists,
sipping Obsession Wine,
and selling my art.

Now that I'm back home, it's time to get ready for
the upcoming art shows.

Oh and I have some awesome news to share soon too! :)

 Thanks Ironstone!
