Doodle Time!

December's Doodle:

Hope everyone is busy
getting ready for
Christmas!

This is a doodle I made while killing time at work...
shhhh don't tell! :)

I'm not sure what to call it,
but colorful and a little whimsical.

Doodle for November!

Here is an ink drawing I did one day.
My background is in architecture, so every once in awhile I dream up some cute bungalows.

Enjoy!

Open Studios - Nov. 2011

My first Open Studios at The Alameda Artworks
was a great experience.

Thanks to all my family and friends that were able to attend.
I also met some wonderful people who visited
and purchased my art over the weekend.
It is so enriching and satisfying to hear
positive feedback on my work...it keeps me going. :)
This was a chance for me to get to know the other artists better,
and see their artwork as well.  There is such a huge variety of styles and awesome talent in those studios.  I'm so grateful to be a part of this.

A special thanks goes to my husband who worked so hard installing the wood molding on my gallery walls.  Don't they look great?!

Doodle of the Month - something new to share!

:Doodle of the Month:

"OCTOBER"
I love to draw in my spare time...
O.K. most of the time,
what creative soul doesn't?

These are simple illustrations with pen and ink, that are inspirations to something more and greater in their future....
So for October,

I choose a pumpkin and

a blossom, of course. :)

Each month I'll post a new doodle to enjoy;
they are fun and addictive!

My New ART STUDIO!!

Like many artists, having your own studio space is so important.
Well, I got my wish,
and moved into an art studio
at The Alameda Art Works in downtown San Jose!

Painting the walls of my studio.

This is one of the most exciting and scary moves in my life...

It's a risk and an investment for my future as a working artist; and

it's a great location from home, and in an established artist community;
and it will be a perfect place to teach workshops; and

I can leave all my messy paint and canvases out without disturbing my house!

My daughter helped me stain my new awesome work table, built by my most awesome husband, of course!
The table is 30 inches deep, 36 inches high, and 8 feet long!

There is still some more work to do to my studio in the next few days.

The first week of November, we will be having the annual
Open Studios event here at The Alameda Art Works.

That's all for now, got to get back to my studio...
I just love the way that sounds! :)

Painting with Tesia was golden!

Tesia Blackburn's workshop was a blast!
I took a three day workshop with fine artist, Tesia Blackburn
in her art studio at the Hunter's Point Shipyard Art Studios in San Francisco.

The class was Mixed Media Mania...we got to play with all my favorite mediums!
Golden's Gloss & Matte Gels, Glass Bead Gel, Molding Pastes galore,
Golden's awesome fluid acrylic paints, and more . . . it was heaven!

The photo above is all the 9x12 canvas boards
I made samples of the different techniques in class.
Each panel consist of five or more layers of paint, gels and collage materials.
I had fun exploring with each technique, especially the faux encaustic panel.
I'm not crazy for any of my compositions, but it was the process that counts!

Check out some more photos from the class on Tesia's Flicker site.

I definitely enjoyed Tesia's workshop, she has such a positive
and supportive teaching style, and her high energy is contagious!
I plan to attend another class soon, so should you!

Palazzi Salon

The completed floral twins now have a new hang out...

Reception counter at Palazzi Salon
Several of my paintings are exhibited in Campbell,
My artwork will be displayed there for at least a month.
This is a first for me, and I'm truly grateful to have this opportunity as artist.
O.K. I'm totally excited too!!

You are welcome to stop by during regular business hours to view them.
Of course they are for sale! :)

Below are photos of the finished Floral Twins, "Dynamic Balance One, and Two"
I'm selling them as a pair.  The contrast of the opaque yellow "petals" next to the silver outlines make such a strong statement.

"Dynamic Balance One"

"Dynamic Balance Two"

These are more photos of some new pieces
I installed at Palazzi Salon.

"Warm Harmonies", acrylic on canvas, 30"x40"

Acrylic on wood panel, 10x10

"Terra Bloom", acrylic on canvas panel

"Mystical", acrylic on canvas, 24"x24"
I'll close this post with a big thanks to my

Having fun on the art walk!

The Campbell Art Walk was a great night for me.
My son, in the photo above, helped me set up.
I think he deserved a Frappuccino, don't you?

It was a beautiful night, and the weather was perfect.
I want to thank all my wonderful friends for stopping by and
supporting me on my artful adventure!
 Enjoy your summer!

I'm a little late posting about my first visit to the monthly
South First Fridays, here in San Jose on First Street.

What a total treat for any artist to experience!!

The SubZero Festival was also going on that night as well,
so there was so much to see and do!  It is full of alternative and
unique art, music and culture.

Several art galleries were open that night, including
San Jose's Museum of Quilts and Textiles.
These are some photos of some amazing pieces!

The following fun yarn creations were all over the street,
I couldn't resist taking a few shots of them!

Enjoy your summer!

Willow Glen Lifestyle Home Tour

What an awesome weekend!  This is my second successful art show
with the Willow Glen Lifestyle Home Tour, here in the Bay Area.
The weather was beautiful and the backyard setting was amazing.

As always it is a wonderful experience to help out this amazing organization
supporting the San Jose Day Nursery.
I plan to extend my help by visiting the daycare
this summer by creating some fun art with the children.
I fondly remember doing this with my twin daughter's at their daycare...awhile ago. (They are twelve now)

Before the show, I finished a few new pieces, of which I really
liked the ending results.  Those pieces have new homes now...
so I'll have to create some more...darn! :)

So back to my studio, or should I say
the Kitchen table...

February ART Challenge with Rachel Ann Austin

For the month of February I joined Rachel Ann Austin's Art Challenge.

I've been a huge fan of Rachel Ann Austin for some time now, and thought what a great opportunity for me to take part in her blog event.  The theme is "Home".
Having never participated in an online blog challenge,
this would be a "real" challenge for me!
How scary to have your art posted where hundreds of people will see it!
So I thought I'd start simple and do a ink doodle of what first came to mind- a small detail from an imaginary house, in the style of "doodles" I've been drawing lately.

It was tons of fun to see my art posted with the other artists on
Now the jitters are gone, and the fun has begun!!

My art to yours,
Yvette
